DCR and Body Central proudly presents:
Integrative
Manual Therapy for the Ankle and Foot
Moving Forward,
Stepping Up, Balancing the Ankle and Foot through
Integrative Manual Therapy and Orthotic Intervention
Mobility at the ankle and foot is very
important for healthy movement and function in life. Heel
strike is essential for the runner, the person with a neurologic
disorder, the child with cerebral palsy, the adult with a
spinal cord injury who is undergoing gait training, as well
as the individual going through everyday activities. This
new course in Structural Rehabilitation that focuses on the
ankle and foot combines the best of traditional orthotic intervention
and advanced manual techniques to attain increased mobility
and range of motion, decreased pain, and improved overall
function. Through extensive lab time, the student will gain
a comprehensive understanding and application of how to help
a patient attain optimal functioning. Clinical skills will
be enhanced with this course. The concepts presented in this
class teach the student how to use critical thinking to develop
specific rehabilitation plans for different patient populations.
The Practitioner will learn:
1. Integrate an expanding understanding of lower extremity
anatomy, Biomechanics, and the gait cycle.
2. Demonstrate intrinsic and extrinsic evaluative skills.
3. Become familiar with new IMT techniques and protocols
for gaining range, balancing, and alleviating pain from
the ankle and foot complex.
4. Find subtalar joint neutral as a basis for evaluation
and orthotic casting.
5. Consider the Biomechanical, IMT, and orthoses needs
of typical non-specific populations.
6. Understand the evolving role of orthotic devices in
a treatment progression.
